The "rotary rocket" sports car is coming back after more than 10 years away. It promises to be the fastest, most-agile RX-7 yet. It could also be a hybrid.

What We Know About the 2012 Mazda RX-7

After being rumored off and on for the past five years, a new Mazda RX-7 looks to be on the way at last. Not much is known about it right now, as development has reportedly just begun, but sources predict a calendar-2011 debut, perhaps as an early-2012 model. By that time, Mazda's RX-8 will be nine years old and ready for retirement, hence speculation that the next RX-7 will replace Mazda's "senior" sports car.

The original RX-7 debuted in 1977 and quickly built a large and loyal worldwide following as a fast, agile, and affordable two-seat coupe with a unique and fascinating rotary engine. A 1986 redesign added size and a convertible body style, but neither did much for sales. Accordingly, Mazda went back to basics for a third-generation 1993 RX-7 coupe but turbocharged the engine to over 250 horsepower. Enthusiasts loved it, but a weak dollar-to-yen exchange made it too expensive to draw sufficient U.S. sales, so Mazda pulled the plug after 1995--but only in America. The RX-7 continued into the new century for Japan, Europe, and other overseas markets, even as Mazda rolled out the four-door, four-passenger RX-8.

Sources say the 2012 Mazda RX-7 will be another Japan-sourced two-door coupe, but based on Mazda's latest MX-5 roadster platform. However, that rear-wheel-drive architecture will be scaled up to near RX-8 size, which could mean a tiny back seat instead of a strictly two-passenger cockpit. Styling is said to be drawn from the 2006 Kabura concept, so look for traditional long-hood/short-deck proportions, an arched roof, prominent cycle-style front fenders, an aggressive nose, and big wheels pushed right out to the corners.

The Corsa is a variant of the MC12 intended for racetrack use. In contrast to the race version of the MC12, of which street-legal versions were produced for homologation purposes, the MC12 Corsa is intended for private use, albeit restricted to the track, as the Corsa's modifications make it illegal to drive on the road.

The Corsa was developed directly from the MC12 GT1, which won the 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers Cup.[48] The car was released in mid-2006, "in response to the customer demand to own the MC12 racing car and fueled by the growth in track days, where owners can drive their cars at high speeds in the safety of a race track", as stated by Edward Butler, General Manager for Maserati in Australia and New Zealand.[49][48] In similar fashion to the Ferrari FXX, although the owners are private individuals, Maserati is responsible for the storage, upkeep, and maintenance of the cars, and they are only driven on specially organized track days. Unlike the FXX, Corsas are not used for research and development, and are used only for entertainment.[50] A single MC12 Corsa has been modified by its owner to make it street-legal.[48]

Only twelve MC12 Corsas were sold to selected customers, each of whom paid €1 million (US$1.47 million) for the privilege. Another three vehicles were produced for testing and publicity purposes.[49][51] The Corsa shares its engine with the MC12 GT1; the powerplant produces 755 PS (555 kW; 745 hp) at 8000 rpm, 122 PS (90 kW; 120 hp) more than the original MC12.[52] The MC12 Corsa shares the GT1's shortened nose, which was a requirement for entry into the American Le Mans Series. The car was available in a single standard color, named "Blue Victory", though the car's paint could be customized upon request.[49] The MC12 Corsa possesses steel/carbon racing brakes, but is not fitted with an anti-lock braking system.[48]

In 2004 the Maserati MC12s were unable to compete in series backed by the ACO, such as the Le Mans Endurance Series (LMES) in Europe and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) because they exceeded both the length and width restrictions for their class.[1] The car's nose was shortened by 200 millimetres (7.9 in) to attempt to comply with regulations, but was still 66 millimetres (2.6 in) too wide. In 2005 the governing body of the ALMS, the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), allowed the MC12s to compete as a guest with the agreement that they were not allowed to score championship points and were forced to run a weight penalty.[13] Some ALMS teams initially objected to the participation of the MC12 due to the possibility that an accident could eliminate their chances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but the MC12 was finally allowed to race. The ACO stood by their ruling on the car by forbidding it from entering other Le Mans series.

The lone MC12 would be campaigned under the Maserati Corse banner, but run by the American Risi Competizione team. The 2005 American Le Mans Series season was not as successful for the team, with the team scoring no wins. In the final race at Laguna Seca, the MC12 was clipped by a competitor, causing damage that resulted in a lengthy pit stop.[43] After resuming the race, a loss of traction caused by cold tires made the car hit a curb, which broke the radiator and took the MC12 out of the race.[43]

In August 2007, Fredy Lienhard and Didier Theys announced their preparation of a former FIA GT MC12 for use in the American Le Mans Series.[44] The car made its debut at Road America, finishing 3rd in the GT1 class after qualifying competitively. The only other race entered was Round 11 at Road Atlanta for the Petit Le Mans where the team failed to finish following an accident, but were still classified second in class.[45] Doran's Maserati however had qualified on the class pole.[46] The team selected Michelin tires instead of the Pirellis originally used by Maserati Corse in 2005,[44] and was also allowed to race with a full-width rear wing instead of the smaller wing used by Maserati Corse and teams in FIA GT, although the wing was not as tall.[47] IMSA also allowed Doran to score points in the American Le Mans Series championships.
n 2005 Maserati won the FIA GT Manufacturers Cup with 239 points: almost double the score of next team (Ferrari with 125 points).[26] The two teams that entered MC12s into the FIA GT, Vitaphone Racing and JMB Racing, finished first and second respectively in the Team Cup, with Vitaphone winning by a considerable margin.[26] Four of the MC12 drivers were in the running to win the FIA GT Drivers' Title at the Bahrain International Circuit at the start of the final race of 2005: Karl Wendlinger and Andrea Bertolini each on 71 points and Timo Scheider and Michael Bartels on 70. Gabriele Gardel of Ferrari was also on 70 points, however, and in the crucial race he placed ahead of the all of the Maseratis, driving an older Ferrari 550 Maranello. Gardel took the title leaving all of the Maserati drivers within four points of first place (Scheider and Wendlinger receiving four points for the race).[26][27]

In 2006 the only team representing Maserati was Vitaphone Racing. On September 30, 2006 Vitaphone secured the Teams' Championship for the 2006 season despite their drivers placing 5th and 7th in the Budapest 500km race with weight penalties of 85 kilograms and 105 kilograms respectively.[28] Bertolini and Bartels also shared first place in the Drivers' Championship on 71 points but the manufacturers cup went to Aston Martin.[29]

Vitaphone Racing again won the GT1 Teams' Championship in the 2007 season on 115 points, followed by fellow MC12 team Scuderia Playteam Sarafree on 63 points.[30] JMB Racing also entered two MC12s, but they were used by amateur drivers competing in the Citation Cup, which was won by JMB's driver Ben Aucott.[31] Maserati also won the Manufacturers' Cup by a significant margin while Thomas Biagi won the Drivers' Championship. Fellow Vitaphone drivers Miguel Ramos and Christian Montanari tied for sixth, while Playteam's Andrea Bertolini and Andrea Piccini were just behind.[30]

For 2008, Vitaphone Racing returned with a pair of MC12s for drivers Andrea Bertolini, Michael Bartels, and Miguel Ramos, as well as newcomer Alexandre Negrão.[32][33] The season ended with another Teams' Championship for Vitaphone Racing (122.5 points) and Drivers' Championship for Bertolini and Bartels. In the ninth round, the team fielded a third car under the name of Team Vitasystem, driven by Pedro Lamy and Matteo Bobbi which scored one point. JMB Racing retained a single MC12 for 2007 Citation Cup winner Ben Aucott and drivers Peter Kutemann and Alain Ferté, competing in the first five events of the championship.

In the 2009 season the Vitaphone Racing won the fifth consecutive Team Championship, while Bertolini and Bartels gained their third Drivers' Championship. The other two drivers were Miguel Ramos and Alex Müller, who ended in sixth position. Starting from the fourth round, the team entered a third car under the name of Vitaphone Racing Team DHL, driven by Matteo Bobbi and Alessandro Pier Guidi, achieving good results: despite being only a one-car team, with a partial season involvement, they ended the Teams' Championship in fourth position (32 points), scoring a victory in the last round.
[edit] FIA GT1 World Championship

With the inauguration of the FIA GT1 World Championship in 2010, Maserati continued their commitment to the series with two teams entering. Vitaphone Racing Team, the defending FIA GT Champions, won five races enroute to the Drivers' and Teams' World Championships, but Maserati lost to Aston Martin in the Manufacturers' Trophy. The second team representing Maserati was Alfrid Heger's Triple H Team Hegersport.
[edit] Italian GT

MC12s have had great success racing in Italy, and have replaced the GT3 "Maserati Trofeo Light" as Maserati's representative in the Italian GT Championship.[34] In 2005 Maserati introduced two MC12s to the GT1 division under Scuderia Playteam and Racing Box, with the teams placing first and third overall respectively.[35] The cars were re-entered in 2006, with Scuderia Playteam again securing overall victory and Racing Box coming second.[36][37][38] From 2007, GT1 cars are not permitted in the championship, and Scuderia Playteam moved to the FIA GT Championship.

Racing Box also participated in the non-championship 6 Hours of Vallelunga twice, winning in 2005 with Michele Rugolo, Leonardo Maddelena, and Davide Mastracci,[39] then again in 2006 with Pedro Lamy, Marco Cioci, and Piergiuseppe Perazzini.[40]
[edit] Super GT

In 2006, the Le Mans winning outfit Team Goh was intending to race a Maserati MC12 in the Super GT series in Japan. However, the team was forced to withdraw because of driver problems (Jan Magnussen falling ill suddenly and returning to Denmark) and disappointing lap times at the Suzuka Circuit during testing.[41] While the car was faster than its Super GT rivals down the straights, it was losing more than a second per lap in the corners due to its poorer aerodynamics.[42]
The car has generally received mixed reviews, with critics saying it is hard to drive, overpriced and too large.[18] Other criticisms include the lack of a trunk, rear window, spare tire and radio, and the way the car's engine was limited or "drugged".[1][7] Current driver for Vitaphone Racing Team Andrea Bertolini, the chief test driver throughout the development, said the car "reacts well and is very reliable in its reactions."[19]

The Top Gear television series acquired an MC12, and test driver The Stig achieved a lap time of 1:18.9 around the Top Gear track—0.1 seconds faster than his lap in the Enzo Ferrari.[20] Host Jeremy Clarkson also drove it, comparing it to the Maserati Biturbo, a car he disliked.[18] Clarkson criticised the car greatly, pointing out that, like the Enzo, it lacks a rear window. He also commented that it is "difficult" due to its size, and "one of the twitchiest cars" he has ever driven, meaning a small action by the driver results in an exaggerated reaction from the car. For these reasons, he promptly renamed the car "The MC Hammer".[18] Regarding the design of a racing car and modification to road standards he said, "Is it a racer? Is it a GT car? Is it a de-tuned Enzo in a fat suit? You can't really tell."[18] Despite his criticisms he did compliment the smooth ride:

This car glides over bumps, the suspension absorbing the roadworker Johnnies’ laziness without transferring a single ripple to the cool blue interior with its Milanese fashion house upholstery.[21]

Motor Trend Magazine reviewer Frank Markus had a more positive opinion. Despite initial skepticism he said, "It turns out that the Enzo makes a more comfortable and attractive road car when made over as a butch Maserati racer in street couture".[1] Markus complimented the stability of braking and the handling ability of the MC12, especially the drifting allowed by the traction control when cornering, commenting that "There's none of the knife-edged limit handling we criticised in the more extreme Enzo. It's even more forgiving at the limit than an Acura NSX."[1]

When Automobile Magazine tested an MC12, reviewer Preston Lerner called it "user-friendly", praising the responsiveness and simplicity of driving.[22] Lerner approved of Frank Stephenson's work with the styling of both the car's exterior and interior, calling the trim "Speed-Racer-ish" but "without looking as though it belongs in a Nitrous-ized Civic".[22] He also complimented the ASR's level of intervention, commenting that it "lets the fun factor get reasonably high before kicking in".[22]

Recently Evo Magazine ran the MC12 at Nordschleife and obtained a 7:24.29 second lap time.[citation needed] This was also the second time an MC12 recorded a faster lap time than its Ferrari counterpart, with the Enzo lapping the track exactly 1 second slower. Both times were set by the same driver, Marc Basseng.

The Maserati MC12 is a two-seater sports car produced by Italian car maker Maserati to allow a racing variant to compete in the FIA GT Championship. The car entered production in 2004 with 30 cars produced (five of which were not for sale). A further 25 were produced in 2005 making a total of 50 cars available for customers, each of which were pre-sold for €600 000.[5][7]

Maserati designed and built the car on the chassis of the Enzo Ferrari but the final car has much larger size and a lower drag coefficient.[7] The MC12 is longer, wider and taller and has a sharper nose and smoother curves than the Enzo Ferrari, which has faster acceleration, better braking performance (shorter braking distance) and a higher top speed. The top speed of the Maserati MC12 is 330 kilometres per hour (205 mph) whereas the top speed of the Enzo Ferrari is 350 kilometres per hour (217.5 mph).[7][8]

The MC12 was developed to signal Maserati's return to racing after 37 years.[9] The road version was produced to homologate the race version. One requirement for participation in the FIA GT is the production of at least 25 road cars. Three GT1 race cars were entered into the FIA GT with great success. Maserati began racing the MC12 in the FIA GT toward the end of the 2004 season, winning the race held at the Zhuhai International Circuit. The racing MC12s were entered into the American Le Mans Series races in 2005 but exceeded the size restrictions and consequently paid weight penalties due to excess range.

Development of the Maserati MC12 began while Maserati was owned by Ferrari in order to create a race car for Maserati that would be eligible to compete in the FIA GT. Its initial name was the MCC, meaning Maserati Corse Competizione, and development under the direction of Giorgio Ascanelli was planned to be simultaneous with that of the MCS, the road going version.[2] The body shape was developed from an idea by Giorgetto Giugiaro during wind tunnel testing, though the majority of styling was by Frank Stephenson.[10] The MCC had a very similar body shape to the MC12 but there were several key differences, most notably the rear spoiler.[2] Andrea Bertolini was the chief test driver throughout the development (although some testing was done by Michael Schumacher),[11] frequently testing the MCC at the Fiorano Circuit.[2] As the MCC was developed further, word of the MCS ceased and eventually the final name, MC12, was announced.[2]

The car is based heavily on the Enzo Ferrari, sharing the same Ferrari Dino V12 engine with slight modifications, the same gearbox (but renaming it Maserati Cambiocorsa) and the same chassis and track (length of axle between the wheels).[7] The Maserati MC12 has its own bodywork which is wider, longer and slightly taller leaving the windshield as the only externally visible component shared with the Enzo.[1] This extra size allows for greater downforce across the whole body, adding to that of the two metre spoiler.
The MC12 is a two-door coupe with a targa top roof, although the detached roof cannot be stored in the car.[1] The mid-rear layout (engine between the axles but behind the cabin) keeps the centre of gravity in the middle of the car, which increases stability and improves the car's cornering ability. The standing weight distribution is 41% front: 59% rear; at speed however, the downforce provided by the rear spoiler affects this such that at 200 kilometres per hour (125 mph), the effective weight distribution is 34% front: 66% rear.[1]
The body of the car, made entirely of carbon fibre, has undergone extensive wind tunnel testing to achieve maximum downforce across all surfaces. As a result, the rear spoiler is two metres (79 in) wide but only 30 millimetres (1.2 in) thick, the underside of the car is smooth, and the rear bumper has diffusers to take advantage of ground effect.[5] Air is sucked into the engine compartment through the air scoop; its positioning on top of the cabin makes the car taller than the Enzo. The exterior is available only in the white and blue colour scheme, a tribute to the America Camoradi racing team that drove the Maserati Tipo Birdcages in the early 1960s.[9][13] The car is noted for the awkwardness that results from its size: very long and wider than a Hummer H2.[12] This, combined with the lack of a rear window, makes parking the MC12 very difficult.[1
The MC12 sports a 232 kilogram (511 lb), six-litre (5,998 cc/366 cu in) Enzo Ferrari-derived V12 engine, mounted at 65°.[14] Each cylinder has four valves, lubricated via a dry sump system, and a compression ratio of 11.2:1.[4] These combine to provide a maximum torque of 652 newton metres (481 lbf·ft) at 5500 rpm and a maximum power of 630 PS (460 kW; 620 hp) at 7500 rpm.[4] The redline rpm is indicated at 7500—despite being safe up to 7700—whereas the Enzo has redline at 8200 rpm.[1]

The Maserati MC12 can accelerate from 0–100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds (though Motor Trend Magazine managed 3.7 seconds) and on to 200 kilometres per hour (125 mph) in 9.9 seconds.[1][5][6] It can complete a standing (from stationary) quarter mile in 11.3 seconds with a terminal speed of 200 kilometres per hour (125 mph) or a standing kilometre in 20.1 seconds.[1][6] The maximum speed of the Maserati MC12 is 330 kilometres per hour (205 mph).[6]

The power is fed to the wheels through a rear-mounted, six-speed semi-automatic transmission. The gearbox is the same as the Enzo's transmission (tuned to different gear ratios) but renamed "Maserati Cambiocorsa". It provides a shift time of just 150 milliseconds, and is mechanical with a 215 millimetre (8.5 in) twin plate dry clutch.[5][7][15]

The new Maserati that will debut at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show will offer more driving enjoyment thanks to an improved overall vehicle dynamics, more horse power, a more responsive and efficient engine and optimised gearshift response.

Modena, February 21, 2011. After stunning the world with the GranCabrio at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Maserati will use the 2011 Geneva Motor Show to take its grand-touring convertible to a new level of performance and handling with the GranCabrio Sport.

Conceived to give the GranCabrio a harder-edged model to sit alongside the GranTurismo S and the Quattroporte Sport GT S, the GranCabrio Sport uses a more powerful and fuel-efficient version of Maserati's, all-alloy 4.7-litre V8, coupled with the ZF six-speed automatic transmission.

This naturally aspirated engine produces in this configuration 331 kW (450 horsepower) and has 510 Nm at the peak of its rich, thick torque curve. Maserati's Friction Reduction Program has made the GranCabrio Sport's engine more reactive to the driver's most-nuanced inputs, while reaching a 6% reduction in fuel consumption. The top speed of the GranCabrio Sport is 285 km/h.

This six-speed transmission is equipped with the super-fast MC Auto Shift software and has been developed for the GranCabrio Sport directly from the transmission in the Quattroporte Sport GT S. The MC Auto Shift provides optimised gearshift response resulting in an even-greater engagement.

The handling has received attention, too, with an upgrade and revision of the Skyhook active-suspension system – now with a sportier tuning – and the adoption of grooved and drilled dual-cast brake discs.

Visually, the GranCabrio Sport is characterised by a more-pronounced dynamic look. This look begins at the GranCabrio's distinctive nose with a black grille and a Trident with red accents. The headlights now have a black look with white sidemarks, while front corner splitters and the redesigned side skirts are both body coloured. The GranCabrio Sport also debuts a new body colour for Maserati: Rosso Trionfale inspired by the red Italian national colours used on 1950s racing Maseratis – in 1957, Juan Manuel Fangio won his fifth F1 World Title at the wheel of a red Maserati 250F.

The GranCabrio Sport will be on sale in all of Maserati's 62 markets starting from summer 2011.
The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale is one delicious sports car. Sure, it doesn’t carry the same esteem as its Ferrari sister, but it’s still a meaty and juicy sports coupe that just jumps out of the pack. And with Maseratis like this, you can always count on one tuning company to be front and center when it comes to producing some sickening performance modifications.

So hello there, Novitec. We see that you wasted little time in tweaking the sportiest Maserati model in the family.

Before we get to the new tweaks Novitec did under the GranTurismo MC Stradale’s hood, it’s worth noting that the Italian tuning company also worked on some aerodynamic details of the sports car, particularly a central air scoop on the hood that’s flanked by large air vents. There’s also a black-finish boot lid spoiler, two 105mm black-coated or polished tailpipes, lowered suspension springs, and a new set of 21" and 22" double-spoke design alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero high-performance tires.

As for the performance mods, Novitec added a new SUPERSPORT turbocharger to the sports car, as well as a new water-to-air intercooler, a larger manifold, bigger injectors, and a remapped ECU. With these modifications, Novitec was able to take the GranTurismo MC Stradale’s 4.2 liter V8 engine and improve its output from the standard 450 horsepower and 376 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 646 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 460 lb/ft of torque at 5,600 rpm. The staggering increase in output also meant an improvement in performance numbers to the tune of a 0-62 mph time of 3.9 seconds a new top speed of 190 mph.

The only drawback to the program is that it costs €23,900 ($32,000). But hey, if you have the money to buy the car, then you can probably afford Novitec’s impressive tuning program.
The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale is one delicious sports car. Sure, it doesn’t carry the same esteem as its Ferrari sister, but it’s still a meaty and juicy sports coupe that just jumps out of the pack. And with Maseratis like this, you can always count on one tuning company to be front and center when it comes to producing some sickening performance modifications.

maserati kubang 2012 details and exotic car pictures and wallpapers at DieselStation - Fuel for your Desktop.

An AT 8 speed automatic transmission and specific performance settings such as suspensions, brakes, §teering will be exclusively developed in Modena for the Maserati sport luxury SÚV by the Maserati Product Development Department.

Úntil today Maserati has been producing sedans, coupes and two- or four-seater convertibles. Whether we named them Quattroporte, GranTurismo or GranCabrio - or, before them, Ghibli, Mistral, Bora or Indy - their common denominator rested in two words: sportiness and luxury. Times have changed: sportiness and luxury today don't have just one definition. They can also take the form of a very dynamic lòòking and high performing sport luxury SÚV.
New-generation high-tech Maserati proprietary engines will be designed in Modena by Paolo Martinelli - Head of the Maserati Powertrain Department and for nearly 30 years at Ferrari, where he also served as engine chief of the Formula One racing team - and will be produced in Maranello by Ferrari.
The distinctive Maserati style that makes the Kubang immediately recognisable as a true Maserati has been created by the Maserati Style Center headed by Lorenzo Ramaciotti.
"For some reason SUVs today never seem to offer the kind of uplifting driving pleasure and luxury atmosphere that are two givens of today's high-end sports and luxury cars."

So says Maserati, and though we're quite certain rivals like Porsche, BMW and even Maserati's own sister-brand, Jeep, would take offense to the claim, we feel inclined to point out that the very nature of the SUV – higher ground clearance, seating position and the subsequent higher center-of-gravity, to name just one – makes them less suitable for the kind of "driving pleasure" we'd generally associate with Maserati. But we digress.

What we have here is Maserati's take on the premium sport utility vehicle, and the Italian automaker promises it heralds the coming of a new product line. Maserati claims that the Kubang's "style, engine, suspensions, brakes, handling and performance will all be 100% Maserati in picture-perfect continuity with the brand's core values of sportiness, style, elegance, luxury, performance and craftsmanship."

We hope all that is true, and at least the powerplants sound enticing. According to the Italian company, a new generation of proprietary engines are being designed in Modena by Paolo Martinelli, who previously spent 30 years at Ferrari and its Scuderia factory racing team, and they'll be built in Maranello by Ferrari. Expect that engine to be mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Keen fans of the brand may remember that this isn't the first Kubang seen from Maserati. Way back in 2003 at the Detroit Auto Show, the Trident brand showed off an SUV in conceptual form that shared the same moniker. We think this one looks a fair bit better, though it's still a somewhat oddly shaped little duckling.

Nothing else is yet known about the Kubang, but we'd expect it to borrow liberally from the Jeep parts bin, and there have been many indications that it will likely even roll down the same assembly line in Detroit as the Grand Cherokee. In any case, have a good look at the Kubang in all its somewhat funky glory in our high-res gallery of live images, and feel free to peruse the press release after the break.
A Maserati SUV like this Kubang concept being shown at the Frankfurt auto show isn't a new idea. Back in 2003, the Italian company brought the first Kubang to the Detroit show. (Yes, the second concept retains the onomatopoeic moniker of the first.) As the company says, “At a time in which few other brands were going in the direction of a sport luxury SUV, Maserati was already thinking to build one.” The Italians thought long and hard; during the intervening years, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, BMW X5 and X6 M, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, and a number of Mercedes-Benz AMG SUVs came into existence.

Now, after nearly nine years, Maserati is indicating that it is again thinking about joining the overfed segment. As part of the Fiat group, Maserati is now linked to Chrysler and Jeep, which gives the Italian company easy access to an SUV architecture—the Jeep Grand Cherokee's platform, which is actually the new Mercedes-Benz M-class’s platform. While Maserati is upfront about the Kubang’s Jeep roots, the company also promises that its SUV will be pure Maserati when it comes to the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and overall feel.

The Kubang will be powered by a revised version of the Maserati’s current V-8, and an eight-speed automatic is promised. Maserati shared very few details of the eventual production Kubang, but we do know it will appear in 2013. We’re already excited at the thought of an Italian performance SUV. Could one from Ferrari be next?
This related information of Maserati Kubang. Maserati Kubang is a new series of the Maserati company, which was launched in 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. Keen fans of the brand may remember that this isn’t the first Kubang seen from Maserati. Way back in 2003 at the Detroit Auto Show, the Trident brand showed off an SUV in conceptual form that shared the same moniker. We think this one looks a fair bit better, though it’s still a somewhat oddly shaped little duckling.

lotus esprit 2012 fans, the next few years should prove to be very interesting as ... The new generation Esprit will go into production in late 2012 and is ...

The Esprit was finally revealed (by Brian May and Naomi Campbell) at the Paris Motorshow on 30th Septmeber 2010. The car features a mid-mounted 611bhp 5.0-litre V8. The top speed will be 330 km/h and acceleration will be 0-100 km/h 3.4 seconds, The Esprit is due in the spring of 2013.

Dany Bahar, Chief Executive of Group Lotus said "The Esprit is the ultimate supercar. In the past when people thought of the Esprit, they thought of the movies, Bond, Pretty Woman, Basic Instinct but this time around, the car is the star of the show." “One has to be very careful when taking on the challenge of reinventing such an iconic classic as the Esprit – everyone has an opinion. There’s a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward to the future and ensuring that this car not only does the name Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand. I think we’ve managed to find the balance and in doing so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to resist.”

Dany Bahar continued in his speech “Not only does the Esprit look incredible but it has the performance to match. We’ve stuck to the Lotus core values of performance through lightweight and teamed them with future technology and exceptional engineering to ensure that the Esprit will be the leader of the pack. The design is aggressive, you have to see it to appreciate how low and wide the proportions are but it still retains a level of dignity, of class and most of all exclusivity. I’m very proud of this car.”

Set to go on sale in the spring of 2013, the lightweight rear-wheel-drive mid-engined coupe is, according to Lotus CEO Dany Bahar, the future of Lotus.

“One has to be very careful when taking on the challenge of reinventing such an iconic classic as the Esprit – everyone has an opinion,” Bahar said in a statement. “There’s a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward to the future and ensuring that this car not only does the name Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand. I think we’ve managed to find the balance and in doing so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to resist.”

Powered by a 5.0-liter, 612-horsepower V8 capable of propelling the 3,200 lbs. coupe to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, the Esprit promises to be a much higher-performance sports car than its namesake. A hybrid powertrain will eventually make the options list after the early 2013 on-sale date.

The original Esprit, sold for nearly 20 years with either slant four or V8 power. Although the coupe was a performance machine to be reckoned with at its launch, it later embodied Lotus’ financial struggles as it aged less-than-gracefully.

The new car, however, is part of Lotus’ massive expansion plans as it tries to take on industry stalwarts like Ferrari and Porsche.
The 2012 Lotus Esprit engineers are still targeting for 2012. 2012 Lotus Esprit has a V8 Still On Track, New Elise will Arrive this 2011. 2012 Lotus Esprit  has a price of Price of £110,000 and described as the "ultimate Lotus,”

In Lotus spec, the engine could be tuned to generate more than 500 horsepower in 2012 Lotus Esprit. A launch in 2011 could imply the 2012 Lotus Esprit arrives in America in years' time.  The 2012 Lotus Esprit will be based on the Evora, however it will be a longer, wider version of the new Evora with a mid-mounted V8 engine. the 2012 Lotus Esprit promises to be a much higher-performance sports car than its namesake.
As noted, the 2014 Lotus Esprit is part of a daring turnaround-and-growth plan that aims to emulate the recent success of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati. Not so long ago, those four brands were small-scale money-losers as Lotus is today, and they prospered only because they came under the wings of mass-market automakers that were willing to lay down big bucks for improved products and production methods that each brand needed to achieve higher sales and solid profitability. Ford Motor Company turned Aston Martin around over a decade of ownership. Lamborghini went through several owners and financial crises before finding refuge at the Audi division of giant Volkswagen Group. Ferrari and Maserati have long been the crown jewels of Italy’s Fiat, which has committed to resuscitating long-troubled Chrysler.

We’ve mentioned that Lotus has its own deep-pockets protector, Malaysia’s Proton Holdings, which has promised over $1.2 billion to fund the British’s automaker’s expansion. But however impressive that sum may seem, $1.2 billion doesn’t go very far in the car business these days, and Proton has already invested untold millions to keep Lotus alive over the past 15 years. That means the bosses in Kuala Lampur will expect their “English Patient” to pay back this latest investment, and the sooner, the better--or else. But as many analysts have already opined, the odds of success are quite long, considering the still-fragile state of the global economic recovery and the fact that Lotus will be taking on much-stronger brands in a premium-price market where it has no experience. As Autocar’s Steve Cropley observed, “Lotus has been selling [far less expensive] cars and it hasn’t found enough customers for those. Its factories and people aren’t used to making high-value cars...and its [very few] dealers aren’t used to selling them…[T]his is one case where hopes and expectations are separate.”

For his part, CEO Dany Behar is confident, as he told Cropley, that Lotus can successfully grow itself “from a niche sports car company to a builder of a range of premium sports cars...We have the opportunity to change everything--to do things from a better position--and that’s what we’re going to do.” He terms Proton not only a “strong” financial backer but “fun to work with,” and claims a good many people “believe we can do this thing just as passionately as I do.” And he insists the plan is pragmatic and do-able. For example, “we’ll outsource things that aren’t our specialty--just like every other modern manufacturer does. That, and clever design, will help a lot with the quality thing.”

OK, fine. But the devil is in the details, and Lotus’ turnaround plan could be derailed before it reaches the station by factors beyond the company’s control. Or maybe not. For now, then, the only “buying advice” we can give is to stay tuned for further developments and, if you’re inclined, think good thoughts for Mr. Behar and company.

2014 Lotus Esprit Release Date: As noted, Lotus says the reborn Esprit is slated to start production in late 2012 and go on sale in spring 2013. Assuming that timetable holds, the car should come to North America in the second half of 2013 as a 2014 model.

2014 Lotus Esprit First Test Drive: Again assuming no delays, the above timing suggests that a global “ride-and-drive” media preview would be staged early in 2013. A separate press event for the all-important U.S. market would likely follow in summer or fall.

2014 Lotus Esprit Prices: As noted, Lotus quotes a “price indication” for the new Esprit of “circa £110,000,” which equates to $178,000 at current exchange rates. We presume that’s a base-model quote, but it doesn’t matter, because interim currency fluctuations will likely make final pricing somewhat higher. As a rough guess, we think the Esprit will start at just under $200,000, with R-Spec, hybrid, and convertible models coming in at $225,000-$250,000. Tellingly, that’s the same general pricing we predict for the 2015 Elite grand-touring hardtop-convertible, so Lotus fanciers with that kind of dough will face an interesting choice in how to spend it.

Impressive technology

Lincoln SYNC creates a whole new way for customers to interact wîth digital and vehicle technology, offering impressive innovations such as Lincoln SYNC Services, which includes Traffic, Directions and Information, along wîth AppLink.

The standard voice-activated touch-screen Navigation System wîth SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link enables customers to access up-to-the-minute information and entertainment content, such as current gas prices for about 120,000 filling stations, traffic information for 78 markets, weather conditions, sports scores and movie listings in the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia. Owners receive a free six-month subscription for SiriusXM Radio.

Navigator occupants also enjoy superb audio sound quality as Lincoln is the only car manufacturer in the world to offer the THX® II Certified Audio System, which comes wîth AM/FM/MP3 capabilities and a six-disc, in-dash CD changer.

Available as an option is a headrest-mounted DVD system. With two individual screens and two sets of wireless headphones, the system allows rear seat passengers to enjoy individual audio and visual options without disturbing those in the front seat or each other. A standard household-style 110-volt AC outlet has been added to facilitate connection of video game consoles or other auxiliary gear.

The Forward Sensing System helps warn drivers of certain objects within a defined range of front bumpers. It alerts the driver wîth an audible tone when large stationary objects are detected in front of the vehicle. The feature assists wîth parallel parking and parking in a garage or crowded area and is automatically turned off when the vehicle is shifted to park or neutral.

The Reverse Sensing System warns the driver wîth an audible tone if an object is detected up to six feet behind the vehicle. The warning sound becomes a solid tone to tell the driver it is time to stop. It automatically engages whenever a vehicle is placed in reverse. And the rear view camera system transmits an image of the space directly behind the vehicle to the navigation screen when the vehicle is in reverse.

New for 2012 in Navigator are integrated spotter mirrors that consist of an outside rearview mirror designed wîth a secondary convex spotter in the top outer corner. The spotter mirror is aimed at the driver's blind spot. When traffic enters the blind spot on either side of the vehicle, it is visible in the secondary convex mirror, helping provide the driver a broader peripheral view.

Rain-sensing wipers automatically detect moisture on the windshield and activate the wipers to help increase driver visibility.

Security owners deserve

Navigator brings many safety features to the full-size SÚV §egmènt.

AdvanceTrac® wîth RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) is an electronic stability enhancement system that enhances control on slippery surfaces like snowy, muddy, wet or gravel roads. Roll Stability Control can detect potentially unstable situations and quickly engages AdvanceTrac to help keep the tires firmly planted on the ground. All-wheel drive is an option, as well.

Front seat-mounted side airbags provide chest protection in certain side-impact collisions or rollovers. These airbags are attached directly to the front seats so they provide protection regardless of seat position. The Safety Canopy System has side-curtain airbags that provide added protection for outboard-seated occupants in the event of certain side-impact or rollover collisions.

The SOS Post-Crash Alert System™ automatically sounds the vehicle's horn and flashes the hazard lights in the event of an accident where the airbags are deployed or the front safety belt pretensioners are activated.

To help promote responsible driving habits, the MyKey® owner controls feature is standard for the new Navigator. MyKey allows owners to program a key to limit vehicle speed to 80 mph, limit maximum audio volume to 44 percent of the audio system's capability and establish earlier low-fuel warning.

The standard SecuriCode™ keyless entry keypad uses a five-digit code that allows owners to unlock the driver's door, passenger doors or access the liftgate, all without using a key. SecuriCode helps eliminate the possibility of being locked out of the vehicle and allows customers to program their own, customized five-digit code.
In a competitive class, the 2011 Lincoln Navigator is simply passed by its rivals.  The Navigator is a good choice among Luxury Large SUVs, but offerings from Infiniti, Mercedes, Lexus and Cadillac are just better. Edmunds points out that “The Mercedes GL-Class offers better handling and a more prestigious image, while the Cadillac Escalade and Infiniti QX56 boast much more powerful V8 engines.”

Still, reviewers say that if you don’t want to pay for prestige or power beyond what the Navigator offers, the Lincoln isn’t a bad choice. It offers an interior that’s roomy and luxurious, though a few reviews complain about some cheap parts.  Lots of standard features like Ford’s SYNC infotainment system and a navigation unit, coupled with a low price make the Navigator a good value in its class.  Plus, when it comes to practicality, the Navigator trumps much of the competition: its third row can seat adults and folds into the floor, making it easy to extend the cargo space.

If you just want a comfortable, large SUV and can do without the bling, check out the Ford Expedition, the Navigator's less ostentatious cousin.  It’s just as capable and comfortable, but offers more casual surroundings and a lower price. Opt for the Expedition, and you're looking at a savings of about $19,000.

For buyers who just can’t do without a luxury brand, the Cadillac Escalade is the closest competitor to the Navigator.  Reviewers say removing its third row seat for more cargo space is annoying, but it does have better acceleration than the Navigator, plus longer warranties and a more luxurious interior.

Large SUVs like the Navigator are meant to go off road and tow heavy loads, as well as provide a large seating capacity.  If all you want is something that can seat a crowd, you can save money at the dealership and the gas pump by going for a large crossover like the Lincoln MKT. It can still seat a crowd, but you don’t have to pay for the Navigator’s beefy capabilities that you may not need.
