lotus esprit 2012 fans, the next few years should prove to be very interesting as ... The new generation Esprit will go into production in late 2012 and is ...

The Esprit was finally revealed (by Brian May and Naomi Campbell) at the Paris Motorshow on 30th Septmeber 2010. The car features a mid-mounted 611bhp 5.0-litre V8. The top speed will be 330 km/h and acceleration will be 0-100 km/h 3.4 seconds, The Esprit is due in the spring of 2013.

Dany Bahar, Chief Executive of Group Lotus said "The Esprit is the ultimate supercar. In the past when people thought of the Esprit, they thought of the movies, Bond, Pretty Woman, Basic Instinct but this time around, the car is the star of the show." “One has to be very careful when taking on the challenge of reinventing such an iconic classic as the Esprit – everyone has an opinion. There’s a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward to the future and ensuring that this car not only does the name Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand. I think we’ve managed to find the balance and in doing so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to resist.”

Dany Bahar continued in his speech “Not only does the Esprit look incredible but it has the performance to match. We’ve stuck to the Lotus core values of performance through lightweight and teamed them with future technology and exceptional engineering to ensure that the Esprit will be the leader of the pack. The design is aggressive, you have to see it to appreciate how low and wide the proportions are but it still retains a level of dignity, of class and most of all exclusivity. I’m very proud of this car.”

Set to go on sale in the spring of 2013, the lightweight rear-wheel-drive mid-engined coupe is, according to Lotus CEO Dany Bahar, the future of Lotus.

“One has to be very careful when taking on the challenge of reinventing such an iconic classic as the Esprit – everyone has an opinion,” Bahar said in a statement. “There’s a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward to the future and ensuring that this car not only does the name Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand. I think we’ve managed to find the balance and in doing so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to resist.”

Powered by a 5.0-liter, 612-horsepower V8 capable of propelling the 3,200 lbs. coupe to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, the Esprit promises to be a much higher-performance sports car than its namesake. A hybrid powertrain will eventually make the options list after the early 2013 on-sale date.

The original Esprit, sold for nearly 20 years with either slant four or V8 power. Although the coupe was a performance machine to be reckoned with at its launch, it later embodied Lotus’ financial struggles as it aged less-than-gracefully.

The new car, however, is part of Lotus’ massive expansion plans as it tries to take on industry stalwarts like Ferrari and Porsche.
The 2012 Lotus Esprit engineers are still targeting for 2012. 2012 Lotus Esprit has a V8 Still On Track, New Elise will Arrive this 2011. 2012 Lotus Esprit  has a price of Price of £110,000 and described as the "ultimate Lotus,”

In Lotus spec, the engine could be tuned to generate more than 500 horsepower in 2012 Lotus Esprit. A launch in 2011 could imply the 2012 Lotus Esprit arrives in America in years' time.  The 2012 Lotus Esprit will be based on the Evora, however it will be a longer, wider version of the new Evora with a mid-mounted V8 engine. the 2012 Lotus Esprit promises to be a much higher-performance sports car than its namesake.
As noted, the 2014 Lotus Esprit is part of a daring turnaround-and-growth plan that aims to emulate the recent success of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati. Not so long ago, those four brands were small-scale money-losers as Lotus is today, and they prospered only because they came under the wings of mass-market automakers that were willing to lay down big bucks for improved products and production methods that each brand needed to achieve higher sales and solid profitability. Ford Motor Company turned Aston Martin around over a decade of ownership. Lamborghini went through several owners and financial crises before finding refuge at the Audi division of giant Volkswagen Group. Ferrari and Maserati have long been the crown jewels of Italy’s Fiat, which has committed to resuscitating long-troubled Chrysler.

We’ve mentioned that Lotus has its own deep-pockets protector, Malaysia’s Proton Holdings, which has promised over $1.2 billion to fund the British’s automaker’s expansion. But however impressive that sum may seem, $1.2 billion doesn’t go very far in the car business these days, and Proton has already invested untold millions to keep Lotus alive over the past 15 years. That means the bosses in Kuala Lampur will expect their “English Patient” to pay back this latest investment, and the sooner, the better--or else. But as many analysts have already opined, the odds of success are quite long, considering the still-fragile state of the global economic recovery and the fact that Lotus will be taking on much-stronger brands in a premium-price market where it has no experience. As Autocar’s Steve Cropley observed, “Lotus has been selling [far less expensive] cars and it hasn’t found enough customers for those. Its factories and people aren’t used to making high-value cars...and its [very few] dealers aren’t used to selling them…[T]his is one case where hopes and expectations are separate.”

For his part, CEO Dany Behar is confident, as he told Cropley, that Lotus can successfully grow itself “from a niche sports car company to a builder of a range of premium sports cars...We have the opportunity to change everything--to do things from a better position--and that’s what we’re going to do.” He terms Proton not only a “strong” financial backer but “fun to work with,” and claims a good many people “believe we can do this thing just as passionately as I do.” And he insists the plan is pragmatic and do-able. For example, “we’ll outsource things that aren’t our specialty--just like every other modern manufacturer does. That, and clever design, will help a lot with the quality thing.”

OK, fine. But the devil is in the details, and Lotus’ turnaround plan could be derailed before it reaches the station by factors beyond the company’s control. Or maybe not. For now, then, the only “buying advice” we can give is to stay tuned for further developments and, if you’re inclined, think good thoughts for Mr. Behar and company.

2014 Lotus Esprit Release Date: As noted, Lotus says the reborn Esprit is slated to start production in late 2012 and go on sale in spring 2013. Assuming that timetable holds, the car should come to North America in the second half of 2013 as a 2014 model.

2014 Lotus Esprit First Test Drive: Again assuming no delays, the above timing suggests that a global “ride-and-drive” media preview would be staged early in 2013. A separate press event for the all-important U.S. market would likely follow in summer or fall.

2014 Lotus Esprit Prices: As noted, Lotus quotes a “price indication” for the new Esprit of “circa £110,000,” which equates to $178,000 at current exchange rates. We presume that’s a base-model quote, but it doesn’t matter, because interim currency fluctuations will likely make final pricing somewhat higher. As a rough guess, we think the Esprit will start at just under $200,000, with R-Spec, hybrid, and convertible models coming in at $225,000-$250,000. Tellingly, that’s the same general pricing we predict for the 2015 Elite grand-touring hardtop-convertible, so Lotus fanciers with that kind of dough will face an interesting choice in how to spend it.
